There are just over two weeks left before the Employment Forum 2015 begins. This year’s edition will run from 29th September to 5th October, with seven days filled with employment opportunities from companies such as Nestlé, Ernst & Young, Adecco, Samsung and Accenture, among many others and new participants that we shall reveal over the next few days. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the Forum, you should really read the following testimony of our interviewee, Lucas Madiedo, a former EAE student who took part in the 2014 edition of the Employment Forum and, as a result, he is currently working in the real estate department of Carrefour in Argentina.

Lucas MadiedoHe took the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management at EAE Business School. After taking part in the School’s Employment Forum, at which over 2,000 partner companies participated, Lucas embarked on a new course in Argentina. He spent a few minutes with us to tell us about his professional projects and what it is like to work in a company with over 350,000 employees.

Carrefour has over 10,000 stores spread across more than thirty countries. How did you react when they called and asked you to join their team?

To be honest, I was really happy. I remember leaving the interview with may manager thinking, “Oh I really hope they pick me”. They had just explained in detail all of the work that I would be doing, the projects that were underway and the working methodology in the company. It seemed like there were plenty of opportunities to learn a really broad range of aspects about marketing and, what’s more, in a large international company, which made it an even more attractive option. So, when they called to welcome me to the team, it was really exciting.

What were your first impressions of the company? Is it what you expected?

I was really pleasantly surprised by the amount of different tasks that need to be done, we gradually ended up applying practically all of the aspects of marketing that I had studied, from online and offline campaigns to street marketing actions, public relations and so on. The great working environment and the motivation of all of the departments means that there are new projects every day and new challenges to take on.

In addition, it was a nice surprise how well they welcomed me and, right from the start, I was working as just another one of the team, with my own projects, meetings and responsibilities.

What is your professional objective in both the short and long term?

Right now, thanks to Carrefour, I have been working for a month in the offices in Buenos Aires and I will be staying here for at least another year.

To be honest, my objective is to take full advantage of the great international training opportunity that they have given me. I am trying to get the most out of it every day.

Beyond that, I will have to look at the options available to me when this comes to an end: going back to Spain, staying in Argentina or continuing in another country. One thing that is clear is that I like what I do and I want to keep moving forward in this field.

Part of your academic life has been spent at EAE. How would you describe your time there?

I would describe it as a great opportunity. The chance to take this Master enabled me to broaden my knowledge of marketing with great professional and a group of students from different countries and backgrounds that certainly helped me a lot, both personally and professionally.

How has your time at EAE contributed to your professional life?

Obviously, thanks to the Employment Forum, I have managed to start working for a company as important as Carrefour. Apart from this, it has enabled me to confirm how much I like his sector and gather a set of techniques and notes that I still sometimes refer to. Moreover, this stage at EAE really helped me to develop my capacities for team work and, in particular, oral presentations, both of which are key aspects of my everyday work.

Would you recommend EAE to other students? Why?

Of course, I think that it is a great business school with really good lecturers, a wide variety of activities and students that enable you to take full advantage of a Master of this type.

What experience will you particularly remember from your time at our School?

Mainly the countless afternoons working as a group after class, the presentation of the Marketing Plan and all of the preparation that went into it beforehand and, of course, the nights out and trips with my classmates.
