Just like Fernando, Miguel and Claudia, Itziar Etxeandia was a finalist in Universia’s Jumping Talent programme. This is a great opportunity for her future, as she has been picked as one of our country’s most promising students. After completing the Master in Financial Management, as a result of the selection process, she is now on an internship in Repsol’s Financial Development and Control Department. Here are a few of her first impressions:

108 PEOPLE PICKED FROM THE WHOLE OF SPAIN. WHAT RESPONSIBILITY COMES FROM BEING SELECTED FOR THE JUMPING TALENT PROGRAMME?

The truth is that it is a real honour to be picked as one of the 108 people selected to form part of the Jumping Talent team. Thanks to being chosen, as well as having the chance to interact with Human Resources Directors from some of our country’s leading companies, I have had the opportunity to meet colleagues from other universities whose passion and motivation is unmistakeable and contagious.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN THEY TOLD YOU?

I was so excited. Right from the time they came to the School to give us a talk explaining the programme, I could see myself taking part in it. I signed up knowing that it would be really hard to be picked as one of the 108 finalists, bearing in mind that they receive curriculums from over 10,000 applicants, as they told us in that very first talk. But I didn’t lose hope and, encouraged by the video that they showed us, I decided to sign up and take it as far as I could. Each step of the process that I passed successfully spurred me on more and more, and made me feel closer to the final goal. So, once they told me that I was one of the chosen few picked to take part in this year’s Jumping Talent, I was counting down the days until the event.

WHICH COMPANY HAS SELECTED YOU OR WHAT TRAINING PROGRAMME HAVE YOU STARTED?

After taking part in several selection processes, with companies participating in Jumping Talent such as Mediaset, Santander and KPMG, I was selected by Repsol, where I am currently doing an internship in the Financial Development and Control Department. Right from the start, my priority has been to find a job related to my studies and, of the companies that selected me, Repsol was the company that offered me the chance to join the department that I was really interested in, Finance, where I had the opportunity to put everything that I had learned on the Master into practice.

WHAT HAVE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS BEEN?

The internship at Repsol is fulfilling all of my expectations. During my time there, I have seen first hand that it is a company that values all of its staff, including in terms of their training, and I have had access to great resources for my own training.

My ideal job is one in which the company prioritizes people and in which, as well as their professional development, it facilitates their personal development, an ethos that I have found in this company. As a result, they make you feel like part of the company, giving you insight into its culture and purpose. This is demonstrated by the open attitude of the campus.

WHAT IS YOUR LONG-TERM PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE?

As I said, I am currently on an internship and, when it comes to an end, my aim is to do my job in a company in which I can develop both professionally and personally, and in which I can apply all of the knowledge that I have acquired and will acquire in my professional future.

A STAGE OF YOUR ACADEMIC LIFE HAS BEEN AT EAE. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?

I would describe my time at EAE as a year full of experiences, both in academic and personal terms. I made strong bonds with classmates from all over the world, working as a team together, and I gained a vision of the finance department and the company that is much closer to reality.

WHAT CONTRIBUTION HAS IT MADE TO YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?

I would say that the biggest benefit I have gained from the Master in Financial Management has been the breadth of the scope of financial and business aspects that we covered, with courses ranging from communication to leadership and team management, all of which were led by teachers with a wealth of professional experience in each of the areas, adding value to the theory with their own experiences.
