EAE Business School has been named as the second best business school in Spain by the Merco Ranking 2014. The sector league table was headed by IESE and this is the first time that EAE has gained second place. Every year, the Merco ranking analyses the corporate reputation of the best 100 companies in Spain. Since 2007, EAE has ranked among the top five Business Schools in Spain.

EAE climbed seven positions in the overall classification, from 31st place to 24th, its best ranking since it first participated in 2007. The top ten positions were held by Inditex, Mercadona, Banco Santander, Repsol, Telefónica, BBVA, Iberdrola, Mapfre, Caixabank and Google. Every year, over 700 companies apply and only 100 of them can reach the general classification, in which EAE has been included for the eighth year running. Drafting the list involves the participation of board members of all of the companies in Spain with a turnover above 50 million euros, as well as experts in Corporate Social Responsibility.
In this edition, EAE has held its place in the ranking’s Most Responsible Companies category and Best Corporate Governance category. The Business School is ranked among the top 40 most responsible companies in Spain.

The Merco ranking takes the analysis of six variables into consideration: financial profitability, service quality and customer satisfaction, innovation, Corporate Social Responsibility and environmental policies, internal reputation and employment quality, and international dimension. Merco 2014 takes into account the Independent Review Report (ISA E3000) conducted by KPMG and is the world’s leading verified monitor of corporate reputation. In addition, all of Merco’s methodology and weighting criteria are publicly available.

The drafting process of the Merco ranking uses a multi-stakeholder approach with involves the participation of 1,323 executives who complete an initial questionnaire about corporate reputation Afterwards, 792 experts evaluate the companies: 160 financial analysts, 132 NGO representatives who assess the companies’ commitment to the community and environmental and social responsibility, 108 union members who rate the quality of employment, 108 members of consumer associations who evaluate value for money, 91 economic journalists who assess the companies’ information transparency and accessibility, 77 business professors rate the quality of business management and innovation, 61 members of Dircom evaluate leadership and 55 CSR experts assess the companies’ responsibility and corporate governance. Furthermore, 9,418 employees, 890 university students, 920 business school students, 1,499 member of the general public and 113 HR directors evaluate the internal reputation of each of the companies.
