Deanship

Josep Maria Altarriba, Dean

Josep Maria Altarriba has a PhD in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2011). He has a Bachelor Degree in Law (1998) and another in Market Research and Techniques (2008), both from the Universitat de Barcelona. In 2001, he took postgraduate programs in Mass Communication and Media Studies at Pennsylvania State University and, in 2011, he undertook his postdoctoral research placement at Harvard University, with a grant from the Real Colegio Complutense.

He was appointed as the Dean of EAE Business School in July 2014. His career as a university professor has focused on subjects related to Marketing and Communication. As well as lecturing at EAE, he has also taught at the Universitat de Barcelona and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Dr. Altarriba has been a guest lecturer and conference speaker on a wide range of postgraduate courses at different universities and business schools around the world, primarily in Latin America. 

He is the Chief Editor of the journal Harvard Deusto Business Research and a member of EAE’s Law and New Technologies Research Group (DERTEC-EAE) and the Teaching Innovation Group (GID-EAE)., having published several articles.

His field of research is the legal structure of marketing and communication from the perspective of competition, a subject on which he has published a book and several articles, as well as taking part in numerous national and international conferences.

Since 1997, he has held various positions of responsibility in the Government of Andorra, firstly in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director of Communication of the Permanent Representation of the Principality in dealings with the United Nations. He was later appointed as the Director of Communication of the Andorran Embassy in Spain. In 2005, he became the Director of Communication of the Government of Andorra.

Josep Maria Altarriba is a non-practising lawyer and a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA), the European Marketing Academy (EMAC), the Spanish Association of Communication Research (AE-IC) and the Spanish Marketing Association (AME).

Intra-Campus Coordination Committee

The Intra-Campus Coordination Committee is the main governing body of the common policies of EAE Barcelona and EAE Madrid is six specific areas: research and non-scientific dissemination, international relations, setting and administering the budget of the Academic Department, management and organization of the teaching and research staff and administration and service staff of this department, the joint quality standards of all the programs run by EAE, and common extracurricular service programs run at the two centres. The Committee is headed by the Dean of EAE, and its members are all the Vice-Deans. The Intra-Campus Coordination Committee has one permanent sub-committee, the Executive Library Committee

Academic Committee of EAE Barcelona

The Academic Committee of EAE Barcelona is the body responsible for managing the academic life of the students at EAE’s Barcelona campus. Its key functions are approving, organizing and supervising the centre’s range of academic and extracurricular programs, evaluation of all teaching activity, the interpretation of EAE Barcelona’s internal academic regulations and taking any disciplinary action required with respect to the students. It is headed by the Dean of EAE, and its members are all the Vice-Deans at the centre, and the Directors of the various management areas of the Academic Department, the Professional Careers Department, the Admissions Department and the General Secretary’s Office. The Academic Committee of EAE Barcelona has two permanent executive sub-committees, the Executive Admissions Committee of EAE Barcelona and the Executive Equivalence Accreditation Committee of EAE Barcelona.

Quality and Accreditation Evaluation Committee of EAE Barcelona 

The Quality and Accreditation Evaluation Committee of EAE Barcelona is an independent executive body whose main function is to make proposals to the Intra-Campus Coordination Committee in relation to setting the School’s quality policies and objectives for official undergraduate and university Master qualification programs. In addition, the Committee ensures that the quality policies and objectives of these qualification programs are reflected in the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS), and drafts opinion reports prior to the adoption, modification or withdrawal of EAE Barcelona’s internal academic regulations. The Quality and Accreditation Evaluation Committee of EAE Barcelona is chaired by the Vice-Dean of Quality and International Accreditation at the School, and its members are all the Vice-Deans who oversee the academic management of official undergraduate and university Master qualification programs, as well as the Quality Technical Unit Director of EAE Barcelona, and the External Quality Advisors at the centre.

Equality and Normalization Advisory Committee

The Equality and Normalization Advisory Committee is a cross-institutional executive body governing both the Barcelona and Madrid Campuses. Its main functions are to ensure that the two centres comply with the applicable legislation with respect to equality and non-discrimination, and oversee the implementation of prevention and response policies in the event of potential discriminatory behaviour based on gender, disability, sexual identity, religion, age, race, opinion or any other personal or social circumstance, both in the case of employees and students. The Committee is headed by the General Secretary of EAE, while the Vice-Dean of Student Services is the Committee Secretary, both of which are permanent positions. The other non-permanent members of the Committee are elected on a two yearly, basis: two representatives of the faculty of EAE Barcelona, two representatives of the faculty of EAE Madrid, two representatives each from the Administration and Service Staff of EAE Barcelona and EAE Madrid, and four representatives of the students at the two centres.
