“Research and knowledge transfer are among the inherent purposes of higher education institutions”, emphasizes Dr. Eduardo C. Dittmar, the Vice-Dean of Research at EAE. This means that higher education should not limit itself to the simple act of listening or even just sharing information, but it should go further and embrace a commitment to reflection and reason as channels for exponential growth.
In view of this constant quest for perfection, as well as its institutional goals, EAE Business School has implemented a series of actions that has consolidated the role of research as one of its fundamental pillars. One demonstration of this is the recent publication of the EAE Research Report 2019 which, as well as summarizing our extensive research activity, also reflects the School’s commitment to knowledge and its evolution.
In a dynamic publication, the EAE Research Report 2019 gives an in-depth overview of all the strands that make up the School’s research fabric. Key examples include the promotion policies, research activity, publications, congresses, conferences and research groups that have enabled EAE to consolidate its status as one of the best academic institutions in Spain and Europe.
It should be noted that both EAE’s scientific and technical research has a range of objectives, including the production, dissemination and discussion of knowledge. With this in mind, the chapters of the Report cover the different areas of research, on the one hand, from a quantitative perspective, emphasizing the data and figures that status of the matter at hand and, on the other, from a qualitative viewpoint, focusing on explaining how these different areas of research generate value for the institution and its members.
Research promotion policies
One of the main sections of the Report examines the School’s policies for promoting research. At EAE Business School, these policies primarily focus on training and developing the scientific careers of the members of the faculty, who conduct the majority of our research activity.
With the aim of fostering research, for many years now, the School had been implementing different stimulus strategies, ranging from academic training in various areas and financial support for translations and proofreading to ensure compliance with the publication’s style guidelines, to grants for research placements and calls for submissions for special-focus editions and book chapters in collections by highly acclaimed publishers.
Research activity
Moreover, the Report focuses a great deal on the research activity itself. In 2019, there was a great increase at EAE Business School in terms of both the quality and quantity of publications around the world and this chapter gives a thorough overview of all the progress that has been made. For instance, there was a significant increase in the number of articles indexed on the WoS (Thomson Reuters), to reach a total of 20 in 2019. There was also a rise in the number of articles indexed on Scopus (Elsevier), reaching a total of 23 over the course of the year. In addition, the School’s scientific output includes 47 publications of books and chapters for different publishers.
Dissemination
As well as strictly scientific publications, the researchers of EAE Business School rank among the key opinion leaders in several fields of interest. This has enabled them to make regular contributions to different media, including the press, radio and television. In 2019 alone, the School’s research was mentioned a total of 1,825 times in different national and international media.
Congresses and Conferences
EAE researchers’ participation in congresses and conferences at both a national and international level is another important point covered in the Report. As well as generating great benefits in terms of the School’s visibility, these events also help to build alliances that can provide a foundation and impetus for research activity. With this in mind, EAE Business School dedicates a large proportion of its efforts to expanding its presence on committees and at scientific congresses. As a result, in 2019 EAE took part in 48 congresses, around 30% of which were abroad and the remaining 70% in Spain.
Research groups
EAE Business School currently has 6 research groups that have been running since 2017, all with the aim of promoting the research activities of the faculty members. One of these initiatives is the Law and New Technologies Research Group (DERTEC-EAE).
The DERTEC-EAE group was founded at the Madrid Campus in 2017 and, since then, it has focused on the application of laws and new technologies to industry, companies, ecommerce and electronic payment methods. As well as publishing various articles and chapters in publications such as the Journal of Business Ethics and the NTUT Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Management, in 2019, the group published a book entitled “The 21st Century Company: A multidisciplinary study from a business legal perspective”. Moreover, the group took part in several congresses, such as the International Conference in Marketing Decision Making “The Innovation and development in the Triple Helix Model”, held in Barcelona in December 2019.
As the Vice-Dean of Research Dr. Eduardo Dittmar explains, “each of these groups contributes meaningful solutions for society based on applied research and innovation and transfer procedures”.
EAE Business School’s research is not limited to the abovementioned areas, but rather it goes far further and includes many more programs, services and initiatives.
