EAE held the second edition of the Building Leaders Hackathon, with a high level of participation and commitment among the participating teams.
Organized by EAE’s Professional Careers Department, Building Leaders attracted companies of the standard of DHL, Enterprise Holdings, British American Tobacco and Mutualidad Abogacía. The aim of the initiative is to boost the growth and development of EAE students and give them an opportunity to network.
The participants in the Building Leaders Hackathon were divided into 12 teams in total, each working to resolve the challenges set by the four companies. Moreover, as the main new development compare to the first edition, to successfully resolve the problems, the initiatives had the support of José Luis Santamaría and Henry Mennens, from EAE Lab.
On this occasion, the expert consultant and former executive worked to enhance the value of the talent acquisition program. The experts accompanied the students as they prepared for the talent competition. In this respect, developing solutions based on a value proposition using the different phases of the Design Thinking methodology and focusing on the world of experiences were the main tips given by José Luis and Henry during the training session.
Federica Assandria, the Career Manager at EAE expressed her satisfaction with the results achieved. The Professional Careers Department observed higher participation and involvement of high-potential students. “The level of involvement has exceeded our expectations. A total of 62 students from various Masters of the 1904 intake took part, with diverse programs ranging from administrators, engineers, lawyers, designed, advertisers, etc. In addition, it was a very multicultural group, as is always the case at EAE, with 16 different nationalities”, added Federica.
The Hackathon participants successfully passed a talent detection test. The objective of the Professional Careers team is to boost the growth and development of EAE students. “As soon as they arrive, we identify the students with visible leadership characteristics. We then invite them to take part in the tests on the in-house platform that we have created, where me measure their motivation, drivers and leadership styles, among other key factors in a Building Leaders profile”, explained the Career Advisor. “Our job also involves building a stronger and better relationship with the companies that offer these programs, both those that take part in the Hackathon and others very keen to include students for their processes”.
Project presentation and vote
After the teams representing each company were decided in an internal presentation, it was time for the final phase of the Hackathon with the presentation of the projects. This was followed by the votes from the judges and the decision as to which is the winning team. On this occasion, it was the members of the Enterprise Holdings team who triumphed ta the second edition of the Building Leaders Hackathon at EAE’s Madrid Campus.
Eliana Marcela Monje, from the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management, Fernando Castaño, from the Master in International Business, Juan Manuel Bonilla, from the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management, and Julia Ostrowiecki, from the Master in Project Management were the four winners of the winning Enterprise Holdings team. Their project, “Move with us” consisted of an app that uses gamification to generate value for mobility solutions in the Welsh city of Swansea.
When tackling the challenge, the winning team of Building Leaders worked well together. “We put forward ideas and discussed them together. It was a real team effort”, explained Fernando. “Right from the start, we were very committed and focused on the fact that we wanted to do our very best. We all put in everything we could and that could be seen in the result”, emphasized Eliana Marcela. “Defining the objective helped us to streamline our thinking on the day of the presentation”, added Julia.
As a differential feature at EAE, the Hackathon is growing in strength, which is great to know for students taking part in it, because they sign up without knowing which company they will be assigned, nor the challenge they will have to tackle. Juan Manuel emphasized that this learning experience can be transferred to real life, because you have to work with different people.
