There’s no way around it — 2020 has been a difficult year. Every time we thought it couldn’t get worse, it came back to turn our whole world upside down. .
But if there’s one thing we’ve learned —the hard way—, is to adapt: accepting the changes that the pandemic brought about, but fighting to hang on to what really mattered and coming up with solutions to problems we thought we would never have to face
In this scenario, companies had it the worse. They were forced to reinvent themselves everyday in order to survive. Due to the pandemic, a great number of employees had to work from home — an action that, in many cases, was decided rather hastily in order to handle a critical situation as fast as possible.
But it’s never a good idea to rush into things. And so, companies will now have to face the challenges that this new year will bring. The Human Resources and Talent Development departments will have to address matters like the advent and consolidation of teleworking, the remote selection of new candidates and the well being of their employees, as they struggle to find a balance between their professional and personal lives.
On the other hand, cybersecurity experts will have to be on top of their game and implement the necessary security measures and policies in order to control any threat to the employees’ equipment, making sure they are completely protected so as to avoid classified company information from leaking.
One thing is clear: in 2021 we all have to pull in the same direction. An economic recovery would be a blessing for everyone and there is a great number of businesses that have already gotten the ball rolling by starting to incorporate new personnel.
Well then… Let’s get started! Here’s a list of jobs that will be in high demand in 2021:
With the birth of the internet, digital transformation made its way into most companies’ agendas. But it wouldn’t be until the mid 90s that it would start to develop. Today, it’s a must. And in order to do it right, you need someone leading the whole digital strategy to make sure the transition is done correctly, both internally and externally. Duties of the CDO include directing and guiding the company’s business functions in order to improve productivity and increase its market value, incorporating digital tools and profiles that are oriented towards fulfilling that goal.
In other words, the CDO is the captain of the ship who sails through the net in order to lead us to safe harbour.
It must also be someone capable of quickly adapting to changes and meeting the needs of the net at all times; someone with a commercial profile who knows how to deal with clients and how to communicate with employees in order to form a good team; someone with the qualifications needed to lead the company to success, always fostering innovation and with the eyes always in the future. But don’t be scared! All of this can be learned with an MBA or with our Marketing Management programme that prepares you to lead the digital transformation and innovation processes in any company.
Reading “scientist” probably conjured up the image of someone with a big white coat in a lab full of trays and test tubes with colorful smoking liquids. But that’s not what this is about. A Data Scientist translates a complex language, known as Big Data, in order to extract and interpret the information that is needed to make decisions that will improve the company’s effectiveness and efficiency.
It must be someone who’s an expert in maths, statistics, machine learning and data analysis; someone who is trained in software programming and that fully grasps the concepts of technology and innovation. Working with such a flow of information and data, makes it possible to deduce trends and get ahead of them, but it also offers great assistance for solving problems. How do we know this? Because our students at theGlobal Máster in Business Analytics and Data Strategy and our Máster in Big Data and Analytics. are just like this.
They are the custodians of the cloud, the guardians that protect every piece of information that is transferred into and out of our computers as if they were protecting a vault. Experts in bulletproof algorithms, with a licence to programm. Their job is to prevent data and passwords theft, unauthorised access to devices and illegal duplication of files. They must detect any possible risk and prevent any kind of information leak.
Their mission is to fight the most dangerous enemies: cybercriminals, also known as hackers, thieves or cyberspies. Ruthless pirates that plough through the net with one goal in mind: stealing private information — a loot that’s worth its bits in gold. In order to fight them, Chiefs of Cybersecurity must be able to move swiftly in any battleground —from computer networks to cloud servers, mobile devices or paid softwares— and elaborate unbreakable defense strategies to prevent any intrusion or breach.
It used to be easy — you just had to go to the shop and look around until you found what you were looking for. Now it’s even easier — without even leaving the couch, you can scroll through the catalogue, access the most detailed descriptions and even read other user’s opinions before adding the product to the cart or just pressing the buy now button. If before the pandemic ecommerce had already entered our lives, the boost it got from the Covid era has positioned it as the unopposed leader — and it is expected to stay on top for the coming years.
That’s why the role of the Ecommerce Manager has become so important — a global vision of the market and of what’s going on in it at every moment makes it possible to manage every stage of the electronic commerce process, from beginning to end. In order to do this, the Ecommerce Manager must not only be on top of every detail and make sure that each step is correctly executed, but also master all the skills and communication tools to develop a good strategy for every sales channel. An online sales all-rounder with enough power to break any record. That’s why our Máster in Digital Marketing & E-Commerce is the best fuel to take on this fascinating career.
There is a lot of useful information that we can get from people in a face to face encounter in addition to the words being spoken — like the clothes that they wear, the position in which they decide to sit, the way in which they greet us when they enter the room… all of which we call non-verbal communication and that is of great importance for human resources experts. However, teleworking is here to stay and companies will not only have to adapt, but also tend to the well being of their employees if they want to protect productivity.
With this in mind, the work of the human resources specialists becomes fundamental to guarantee the functioning and competitiveness of the company, for they are the ones in charge of spotting out the right profile for each of the positions through precise and efficient talent management. It’s necessary to have a strategic vision of the company’s human capital and be aware of the latest technological trends, but also know how to develop essential soft skills like negotiation, communication and leadership. In order to get there, you need proper training —that you can receive from our Máster in Human Resources and Talent Development or from our Executive Máster in Leadership and Coaching, , a great dose of shrewdness and a lot of practice.
After all, we can complain about a lot of things, but 2020 also gave us hope, filled us with eagerness and brought new opportunities to start 2021. No doubt these are the perfect ingredients to get us started in this new year. And remember: the best time to start chasing after what we want is always now.
