Get an overview of the 7th edition of the Great Food Collection 2019, with the participation of EAE Business School, at both the Madrid and Barcelona Campuses, within the framework of EAE Solidarity.
Just like laughter, solidarity is contagious. An action, however, small or large, sets off a chain reaction that, once triggered, can carry on forever. EAE Business School understands this dynamic and, with this in mind, within the framework of EAE Solidarity, the School takes part in a wide range of activities designed to boost solidarity and help those most in need. One of the latest initiatives was the Great Food Collection which, just as in previous years, EAE has actively participated in at both the Madrid and Barcelona Campuses.
The Great Food Collection is a campaign run every year throughout Spain with the aim of collecting the large possible amount of food donations for the people who need it most. This initiative is primarily organized by the FESBAL (the Spanish Federation of Food Banks) and has been run since 2013. EAE Business School has taken part in the initiative on various occasions with the students’ collaboration, but also as a general donation point.
In 2019, according to figures from the Madrid Food Bank, the city collected around 2,750,000 kg of food, which will benefit more than 145,000 people. The President of the Food Bank, Francisco García González, announced the campaign had surpasses on the objective set by 10%, with an increase in donations of types of food that are difficult to collect, such as baby food, oil or canned fish and meat.
In the city of Barcelona, meanwhile, the Great Food Collection received donations of around 4,000 tonnes of food, which will benefit more than 200,000 people. Around 28,000 volunteers' help made the campaign such a success, with more than 3,000 collection points.
Since the financial crisis of 2008, this kind of initiative has gained far greater importance, as there is an ever-increasing number of people who need help to feed their families. EAE Business School was proud to take part in the 7th edition of the Great Food Collection, and will continue to support the campaign in years to come.
