Everyone knows fall is that time of year where Barcelona and EAE Business School light up with the arrival of thousands of new students from all over the world. At Start Today we wanted to make sure that all those international faces who have arrived, and those who are dreaming of coming, know the best plans & places in the city to talk about business, (or not). That’s why we teamed up with a couple of fantastic Barcelona local ladies from Barcelona What’s Good to bring you the best recommendations in the city. Don’t miss out on our special collaboration content every month: Business & the City so you can make the most out of your time in the best international student city in Europe.
Even though autumn has started the beaches in Barcelona are still very lively, and most days weather is still amazing! In the peak hours you can lay on the beach with a cold drink, but when the sun goes down, temperatures drop and it gets quite chilly so make sure to layer up.
Barcelona beaches are full of people walking their dogs, skating, enjoying picnics and doing all kinds of sports. In the past couple of years, beach volleyball has definitely taken over the sand.
An easy way to join a group is through Meetup - an app & website where you can discover people and groups with the same interests as you. You can look up any activity or event you like and join an event. There are a variety of fitness-related groups that can charge per session, language exchange, cultural events and also groups of people who just want to ‘meet up’, no cost, to go to a bar to meet new people.
Aside from all the sports, you will find many beach bars when walking along the beaches. The locals call them ‘Chiringuito’s’. A few beach bars are located on the boulevard, but some of the bars are directly on the beach. Around this time of the year, you can still sit on their terraces to grab a drink. During the winter the bars that are located directly on the beach close down, however there will still be plenty of bars where you can go to like Escriba, Shôko, L'Escamarlà, Icebarcelona and many more.
La Barceloneta is a famous neighborhood to visit. It is traditionally a fishing district. You can find several fish restaurants on the boulevard as well as clubs and bars. It’s a clash between an old fishing district and a modern tourist hot spot. The beach of Barceloneta was built for the Olympics in 1992, which is why the sand and houses in La Barceloneta are noticeably different than on other beaches like Bogatell. The closer you get to the sea at Barceloneta the more rocks and stones you will find. Bogatell beach, which is just a few km further, has more spacious beach and the sand feels better on your bare feet, making Bogatell a better choice for a beach day, especially when you want to go into the sea – yes the water is still warm enough in autumn!
