What is the difference between an MBA and an EMBA?
An MBA and an EMBA (Executive MBA) are very similar programs in terms of the content offered. However, they vary with respect to the duration, depth and learning pace.
With regard to the duration, in both cases, this depends on the school and the format in which the program is run, but the main difference is that the MBA is run full time, while the EMBA is a part-time program, enabling professionals to combine their professional duties with their studies without great difficulty. The in-person classes on an Executive MBA are scheduled in the evening, at weekends, or during short intensive courses, always depending on the specific format or program chosen by the students. As is the case of EAE’s Global Executive MBA, some Executive MBAs include short intensive in-person stages, known as residential programs, in different places around the world.
In terms of pace, the EMBA is designed with shorter tuition schedules, but which are more intensive than on a full-time program. This enables participants to optimize their time and minimize any interference with their professional activities. The class timetable for students on a full-time program is intensive and demanding, so participants are advised not to attempt to combine their studies with any other professional activity. The full-time program is a comprehensive experience. Although the structure of an EMBA and an MBA start from the same basis, a full-time MBAs tend to offer more options for personalization, more elective courses and opportunities to complement the participants’ academic experience.
