Being an entrepreneur means setting off for an adventure. Success is not guaranteed, but it’s worth it if it gets you closer to your dreams. Confucius once said, “it doesn’t matter how slowly you go as long as you don’t stop”. For many of those who set out to create their own business, the fact that they dared and that they are able to move in such a complex world is already being successful.
If you’re thinking about creating your own business or if you’re already on it, you’re bound to find setbacks. Dealing with the pressure and frustration are two of the greatest challenges of being an entrepreneur.
Before presenting you with the problems, let’s take a look at some of the advantages of entrepreneurship.
Advantages of Entrepreneurship
Personal Autonomy: Many entrepreneurs seek to escape the dynamics of having to work for someone in order to have more control and autonomy.
Fulfillment: Conquering the horizon, overcoming challenges and setting in motion your own company is a great incentive for entrepreneurs. The satisfaction of an accomplished goal awaits at the finish line.
Commitment: If it’s your own business, it’s unlikely that you leave it unattended. Commitment is an unbreakable concept when it comes to entrepreneurship.
Freedom: In terms of decision making, since one of the advantages of being an entrepreneur is that you are now your own boss. So, you will have more responsibilities.
Disadvantages of Entrepreneurship
Uncertainty: It’s the great travel companion of entrepreneurs. Nothing can be assumed as done or finished. There’s no lowering your guard, especially in the first stages of launching. This is not intrinsically bad: Many entrepreneurs need that adrenaline in order to feel that they’re doing something important with their lives.
Dedication: Checking the watch, weekends or holidays can be an entrepreneur's chymera. If you want your business to be fructicious, you must put in your heart and soul to it, at all times. There’s usually a lot of obsessing surrounding entrepreneurship.
Responsibility Towards Others: If everything's going well, there will be many at your doorstep. This will allow you to lead a team in your own way, but also requires a strong responsibility towards your staff. You can’t ignore their future.
Tips to Deal with Frustration
Be Patient: Nothing is achieved in two days. It doesn’t happen in life, and it doesn’t happen with businesses. Being able to wait for the right time, waiting for the fruit to be ripe and being patient while everything unfolds is very important in order not to get frustrated when things change along the way. You must take one step at a time and set small goals before reaching long term goals.
Passion, but also Brains: Neither is enough on their own. An excess of passion will make you erratic and not very pragmatic when facing things that need some rest, while letting the brains take the lead, will only weaken your dreams. A wise combination of both will help you avoid falling into discouragement.
Stop and Think: When you’re not sure about something, take some time, think. Don’t go full throttle if you have no direction. If when presented with adversity or when stress is peaking you manage to find the time to rethink, you will have acquired a tool for your future.
Seek Advice: Others have been through what you are experiencing. They know the challenges and obstacles of being an entrepreneur. Whether it’s people from your circle or not. Seek advice from those who know best. This will help you unload the pressure and, mostly, to nurture from their experience in similar situations.
Surround Yourself with the Best and Delegate: Not everything’s in the hands of the entrepreneur. That’s why it’s important to surround yourself with a good team in which to trust and delegate those tasks that you’re not as qualified as others. Accepting that others can do it better is good to keep up progress in the business.
Entrepreneurship is a marathon in which challenges are constant. Learning how to deal with frustration in order to get over the discouragement is an enriching task for the future of your business.
